NEWFOUNDLAND AND LABRADOR ASSOCIATION OF MEDICAL RADIATION TECHNOLOGISTS

BACKGROUND

The Newfoundland and Labrador Association of Medical Radiation Technologists (NLAMRT) is a professional non-profit organization. We were founded in 1951 under the name “Newfoundland Branch of the Nova Scotia Division of the Canadian Society of Radiological Technicians”. At the 32nd Annual Conference in 1983, members voted to change the name to “The Newfoundland Association of Medical Radiation Technologists” in order to recognize the four technological disciplines that make up our membership: Nuclear Medicine Radiological Technology Radiation Therapy Magnetic Resonance Imaging

As the province was planning to change its name in 2002, members voted at the 2001 Annual Conference to change the name to include the mainland portion of the province. The name today is “The Newfoundland and Labrador Association of Medical Radiation Technologists”. All individuals practicing medical radiation technology in the Province of Newfoundland and Labrador must be registered with the NLAMRT, CAMRT certified, and must follow the terms and conditions of the Radiation Health and Safety Act set forth by the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador.
